YOU’RE NOT THERE

This post is named “You’re Not There” because I am sharing a very touching music video created by the very talented Lukas Forchhammer. His manager sent this to me and I wondered if perhaps it was because I have a … Continue reading

MEMORY OF LOVE – PART 3

The feelings brought up by this were familiar ones. I was never religious the way my mother wanted me to be and I felt badly that I disappointed her. The fact that she was gone didn’t change that.
Miriam held my hands and looked into my teary eyes and told me, “Judy, you were there for your mom while she was alive. Everyone at the nursing home was amazed by your love and devotion. Did you know they still remember you and always ask me how you are doing?” Continue reading

MEMORY OF LOVE – PART 2

It took a lot of bravery to experience watching my mother decline. I have so many lovely memories. They are the ones that help me overcome my grief and sadness. Continue reading

JUST A TUNE – PART 2

I love how Cheryl lives on for me through my songs. When I think of Cheryl, I am always reminded of how precious life is. She desperately wanted to live. I am blessed because my life is truly a gift. I’ve decided to unwrap it now and enjoy what’s inside. Continue reading

A BRIDGE CAME ALONG

A bridge is a transition. It takes the second chorus to the third chorus and allows the song to build in a magnificent way. My life right now is like a bridge, filled with adjustment and linked to my future. I haven’t reached the “last chorus” so the best is yet to come for me! Continue reading

HOW MUCH I CARE

My friend, Cheryl, inspired my song “Just a Tune” and I really miss her (she died in 2008.) I am sharing some stories about the feelings behind my song, which I recently created a new arrangement for. Continue reading

I CAN’T TELL YOU

At my last hypnotherapy session, I opened up to talk about the guilt I’ve carried for many years over disappointing my mother because I wasn’t an observant Jew like she was. Continue reading

MEMORY OF LOVE-PART 1

I drove home after recording my song. As I drove home, I listened to my song and cried.
Music and lyrics need to combine together like a marriage. When I heard the chords for one of my old songs – I new in my heart that fresh lyrics would bring it to life. I also knew exactly what I was going to write about.

At first, I felt sad to give up the beautiful lyrics that Cheryl had written for me. It was actually very difficult for me to sing her words without crying. Now these words are no different!

THE PAIN YOU’LL JUST HAVE TO BEAR

My song was evolving. As much as I wanted to record it with George, yesterday, I had the clarity to know that improvements cannot be rushed. My song most definitely improved with some adjustments. Just to be honest; my mother still has the acuity and certainly is aware of our love. I also know the memory of it is not far off. That is because I tend to anticipate and project where things are heading. I know my words touch on something that many people can relate to. Continue reading

SONGWRITING 101 – PART 2

I am sharing what I have been writing. I’m sure it will evolve some more – good lyrics involve a lot of rewriting. The title isn’t set for me at all. I wasn’t sure if I should share something so “in progress.” However, I have written this blog as a window into my soul as an artist, writer, and musician. It is also a window that shares my heartache, and documents the challenges of being a wife, mother, and a daughter.
