JUST A TUNE TO TELL YOU – PART 1

I have written a lot about my close friendship with Cheryl. Cheryl was very close with me during the time that I was intensely writing many of my songs. She inspired me on at five songs. This song would be the song that was clearly the one I most considered a special gift to her. Although she is gone, she lives on in my song. When I sing this song, I am not thinking of her – I am actually thinking of how my life has changed and how I feel love again. A lot of that credit goes to someone named Connie.

HER SONG UNSUNG

I originally called my song on this post, “This Song Unsung.” This was one of my favorite songs because of the song’s pleasant chord progression. I wrote it as a simple ballad about playing my music and discovering love. The original song was in first person, with “I” statements. Since it was beautiful but brief; I decided it could be expanded. Since the song was already biographical, it became logical for me to go ahead and create an ending moving forward in time. It was painful to write the new verses. Because the lyrics were now in third person; I changed the song name to “Her Song Unsung.” Continue reading →

YOU ARE MY WINGS – PART 1

Of all the songs I’ve written, You Are My Wings is the most upbeat. It is one of the last songs I wrote before I stopped composing in 1981. The song is very enjoyable for me to play on my guitar. The guitar riff I composed is fairly complex and requires an open tuning. It is a love song, and I wrote it at a time when I longed for love. I found it not long after.
