JUST A TUNE – PART 2

I love how Cheryl lives on for me through my songs. When I think of Cheryl, I am always reminded of how precious life is. She desperately wanted to live. I am blessed because my life is truly a gift. I’ve decided to unwrap it now and enjoy what’s inside. Continue reading

HOW MUCH I CARE

My friend, Cheryl, inspired my song “Just a Tune” and I really miss her (she died in 2008.) I am sharing some stories about the feelings behind my song, which I recently created a new arrangement for. Continue reading

A DEEP, DARK EMPTINESS IS THERE

Does true empathy in grief exist? Empathy is a word that is very close to sympathy. I looked up the definition, and empathy means “the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.” So here is my truth (and my truth alone because grief is unique to every person): I have finally decided that my answer is a resounding no, since it was impossible for anyone to comprehend my level of pain after Jason died – even if they had also lost a child!

I CAN FEEL LOVE AGAIN

It became clear to me that my grief regarding Cheryl had finally surfaced for me to explore. There was so much grief coming up and out of me. The newfound energy is the release of that pain. I had no idea how much energy was required to hold all of that pain inside! Continue reading

I’LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER YOU

My insight about my friendship was that it was a path I traveled on to maturity. Just like romantic love, I went from a fantasized notion about a relationship to a real one. This one ended with death, however, I can celebrate everything that I learned from the experience. When we progress from fantasy love to adult love, we become so much deeper. I know I am flawed and human. Cheryl was also an “imperfect human,” and I love her deeply as I remember her. She may be dead, but she is inside my heart and in my songs. Continue reading
