ABOUT

Judy Outdoors 10-23-18

My name is Judy Unger and I am a 63-year-old woman who has embarked upon a new life. It all began when I started this blog in 2010. When I wrote about my struggles, I released my pain and it transformed me into a new woman.

I rediscovered my love for music after not playing my guitar much for over 30 years. In 2012, I began composing new songs and feelings erupted that startled me. Eventually, my own lyrics became my guide and I found the courage to follow them.

Eleven years ago, I was overwhelmed caring for my sick parents and coping with three teenagers. I also carried grief over my firstborn son who died in 1992 at the age of 5. I was unhappily married for a long time but never acknowledged it.

My life is so different now. Both my parents are gone. After my father died, I found the courage to end my 31-year marriage. Instead of selling my parents’ coop, I decided to live there. It is very poignant to be surrounded with memories from my childhood.

I am a commercial illustrator and my illustrations can be seen on many food labels in supermarkets. My career had a big resurgence after I divorced and I’m fortunate that I can support myself as an artist. I have another blog that I created about my illustration career at https://foodartist.wordpress.com.

I also continue to pursue the music that I love. My biggest struggle has been dealing with dry eye syndrome, which was a complication from cataract surgery in 2012.

Writing has helped me stay on a healing and positive path. Touching and inspiring others through my songs and stories is something that elevates my life.

Thank you again for visiting my blog.
