VULNERABLE EXPRESSIONS

The three vocal songs for this medley are achingly vulnerable. It was only through lyrics that I could express my true feelings.

I am sharing the individual songs, as well as a link to a page with more about each song. (accessed by clicking on the thumbnail image)

“The Unknown” is probably the most pivotal song I’ve ever written. I was miserable in my marriage and couldn’t seem to acknowledge it, living in denial for years about how lonely I was. These lyric lines really tore my heart open:

“I cry inside where you can’t hear me”

“There’s no connection without affection”

“You may not miss me, ’cause you never kiss me”

THE UNKNOWN

“The Door” is about finding the courage and reasons to leave my marriage. Lyric lines for this song that pierced my heart were:

“When the sheets are still, silence a TV cannot fill”

“You must face, the love you took for granted – with every single empty space”

“I left because, I was worth more.”

THE DOOR

“How We Don’t Care” was composed when I was 19, but the lyrics were totally applicable to many relationships later in my life. Pretending and avoiding honest feelings seemed easier, but the results let to a loss of intimacy.
